The upgrade makes communicating with your caseworker easier, increases applicant and recipient access to information and improves our overall service delivery.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly benefits that help eligible low-income households buy the food they need for good health.
Additional Assistance Programs
Family Independence Temporary Assistance (FITAP)
The Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) provides cash assistance to families with children when the financial resources of the family are insufficient to meet subsistence needs. The goal of FITAP is to decrease the long-term dependency on welfare assistance by promoting job preparation and work.
Kinship Care Subsidy Program (KCSP)
KCSP provides cash assistance of $222 per month for each eligible child who resides with a qualified relative other than a parent.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training initiative (SNAP E&T) offers SNAP recipients in Louisiana the opportunity to gain skills, training and work experience. The program is provided at no cost to SNAP recipients who participate.
Strategies to Empower People Program (STEP)
The goal of the Strategies to Empower People (STEP) Program is to provide opportunities for work-eligible families of FITAP to receive job training, employment and supportive services to enable them to become self-sufficient.
As you prepare for hurricane season or other disasters, make pre-registering for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) part of your plan. If you think your household could be impacted by damages or lost wages due to a hurricane or other disaster, pre-register online or by phone for DSNAP. DSNAP provides eligible low- to moderate-income households - who do not normally receive SNAP benefits - with help buying groceries due to lost income or damages following a disaster.
