What You Need to Know Before Visiting a DCFS Office

DCFS offices will reopen to the public Friday, May 15, 2020, with a 25% capacity restriction, including office lobbies. This is in an effort to continue to mitigate further spread of the coronavirus and maintain safety for visitors and staff.

Visitors to DCFS offices should be prepared to answer some screening questions and have their temperature checked at the door, to wear a mask or face covering at all times while in the building, and to be asked to return at a later date if showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. Visitors also should be prepared to wait outside the office, while maintaining the recommended 6 feet of social distancing between people, or in their vehicles if the office’s capacity has already been reached.

To reduce potential wait times, DCFS encourages clients and applicants to continue to access services electronically or by phone whenever possible, as follows:

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly benefits that help eligible low-income households buy the food they need for good health. For most households, SNAP funds account for only a portion of their food budgets; they must also use their own funds to buy enough food to last throughout the month.

Statewide Stay at Home Order to Further Fight the Spread of COVID-19


Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statewide Stay at Home order that went into effect at 5 p.m. on March 23, to further fight the spread of COVID-19 in Louisiana. The order is set to expire on May 15.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in people and others that circulate among animals, including camels, cats and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can evolve and infect people and then spread between people such as has been seen with recent outbreaks of MERS and SARS.

Latest DCFS COVID-19 Update
03/30/20 Supplemental SNAP Benefits to be Issued to Many Louisiana Households

Many Louisiana households who received SNAP benefits in March will see an extra boost on their EBT cards on March 31, 2020, following a waiver from the USDA authorizing supplemental SNAP benefits to bring each household to its maximum allotment by size, in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Other changes include suspended work requirements and the extension of April recertification deadlines.

DCFS Child Support Enforcement staff continues to work even as office lobbies are closed to visitors and encourage non-custodial parents and employers to make payments electronically during the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
